Qualicum Beach NatureKids CLub
NatureKids provides opportunities for children to learn about and connect with nature alongside their families. The Mount Arrowsmith Biosphere Region is happy to partner with NatureKids BC and Arrowsmith Naturalists to provide these opportunities in our biosphere region.
“There is a growing body of evidence that getting children outdoors exploring in nature is important for their physical and mental health. Although a connection to nature is proven to make children happier, healthier and smarter, we live in a time where kids spend less and less time in nature. Not only do kids need nature, nature needs them. A love for nature and wanting to go the extra mile to protect it takes years to develop. We work to instill this love into young children through ongoing and meaningful moments in nature with their families.” - NatureKids BC
Qualicum Beach NatureKids Club
NatureKids BC and Mount Arrowsmith Biosphere Region have an ongoing partnership program offering data gathering, restoration and a forest walk every 4th Wednesday of the month. This program is suitable for children 5 years and older.
Several Explorer Day outings are offered during the year at different sites throughout the Mount Arrowsmith Biosphere Region. These outings are led by club leaders and mentors who hold local knowledge of the Explorer Day sites.

History of NatureKids BC
“With the expansion of suburbs and cities separating families from nature, the Federation of BC Naturalists (now BC Nature) was concerned that kids were becoming increasingly disconnected from nature. To help young children explore, play, learn about and take action for nature where they live, the Young Naturalists Club (YNC) program was formed in 2000. In 2006, YNC became an independent registered charity and was renamed NatureKids BC in 2015. Since 2000, we’ve expanded from one club to nearly thirty clubs that provide regular opportunities for families to explore, play, learn about and take action for nature where they live."
“We can all do something to encourage kids in our lives to grow up to value and understand nature.”
– NatureKids BC Founder, Daphne Solecki”
